An overview of Solihull
With a population of over ninety five thousand, the West Midlands town of Solihull is one of our most favoured destinations for limo hire. The area resides just nine miles away from city centre Birmingham, and yet is fundamentally different from the hustle and bustle of the country’s second city.
Solihull represents one of the wealthiest towns situated within the Midlands, and the fact that the corresponding borough is the fifth prosperous in Britain is one which is held with much pride by the locals.
Visitors are given an insight into life in Solihull with reference to the town’s motto – “Urbs in Rure”, which translates into “Town within the Country”.
In direct contrast to Birmingham, the locomotive of change which accompanied the Industrial Revolution wasn’t particularly felt within Solihull. In fact, at the turn of the twentieth century, the town was still a relatively small market settlement. Even the German Luftwaffe could not alter this during the Second World War, despite devastating the nearby areas of Birmingham and Coventry.
By the 1960s, the town’s population was rapidly increasing and this trend came as a result of a variety of factors. Perhaps the most influential of these was the dispersion of slum areas within Birmingham, with many residents turning to Solihull to build their new lives.
This was furthered by the growth of the Rover motor vehicle site and the development of what would become Birmingham International Airport. These both meant that there was an influx of employment opportunities within the area and as such, people flocked to be part of the new vibrancy which characterised Solihull within the 1960s
There is a good mix of pubs and bars within the centre of Solihull, with some traditional, old fashioned hostelries being favourite amongst the locals. There is plenty of nightlife to explore and within a short distance of each other, you will find familiar bars such as O’Neils, Pitcher and Piano and Rosie O’Brien’s – the majority of these having licences which run into the small hours.
It is also worth bearing in mind that the National Exhibition Centre is in very close proximity to Solihull and there is a wealth of entertainment which can be accessed here, including – the Motor Show, the Clothes Show, the Good Food Show and also an eclectic range of musical acts which run throughout the year.
There are plenty of opportunities for you to celebrate your special occasion within Solihull – all of our chauffeurs are very knowledgeable about the area, so why not go that extra step and hire a limo to transport you to this very quaint location in style.
