Limos – A sign of wealth and prosperity

The early stretched limos were called ‘big band buses.’ These first stretched limos were made in 1928 were used as transport vehicles to transport members of big bands and their equipment too. A status vehicle for the rich, a limousine is a symbol of wealth and exclusivity. Often driven by a chauffeur, the chassis of a limousine can be extended depending on the manufacturer. It could also be extended by an independent coach builder. A limousine has a partition dividing the area between the chauffeur’s seat and the passenger’s seats. This is done to maintain the privacy of the conversation in the rear compartment.

The vehicle got its name from the French region Limousin. The shepherds in this region wore cloak hoods which resembled the covered compartment of the first limousine made in 1902.

Some individuals own such a vehicle while many governments use these prestigious vehicles to transport senior politicians. Multinational companies too have such exclusive vehicles that are used to transport high level executives and professionals to business meetings.

Some limousines now have security features such armouring and bullet-proof glass.

You can hire a limo from the many limo hire companies who offer them for special occasions such as sight-seeing tours, weddings and parties.
