The limousine industry sees police ‘clean-up’ operation

In recent weeks the London Metropolitan Police Service have been stopping those people who have been travelling to the Take That concerts in limousines should they have chosen to take limo-hire for the Wembley concert.

The spot check on stretch limousines, Hummers and Bentleys meant that every person choosing limo-hire for the gig was stopped and checked. For those limousine drivers who were working for rival firms that were not authentic and using limousines that had not passed certain criteria were taken to a special inspection site in Wembley’s Carey Way. Officers worked with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency to continue further mechanical examinations on a variety of suspect limousines.

Out of the 12 limousines that were taken to the inspection site only 2 of them were given a clean bill of health.

Spot checks were also conducted on limousine drivers that were stopped and one particularly driver was arrested due to driving whilst being disqualified.

Another limousine was also seized due to the driver not meeting the necessary driving qualification for driving a Public Service Vehicle.

The UK limo-hire industry has gone through a major clean up in recent months and limousine operators everywhere are now working with the VOSA and local police to ensure that UK limo-hire is the safest it can be. Remember to always choose a reputable company for your limo hire.
